The internet and social spheres love nostalgia. It's now a part of our daily life
(there are more than 20 million photos tagged #ThrowbackThursday on
Instagram, for example) and digital news outlets are starting to take advantage
with their national and global archives. But what about local communities?
CantonRewind.com will be the digital meeting place of nostalgia and news, of
personal and universal, for the local area. It’s preserving history as well as a way
for residents to connect their personal and community’s pasts with their present
and futures. The site and social outreach will use the latest technology to piece together bits and pieces of daily life from the last 100 years in Canton. By using text, photos,
video, audio and social elements – along with user contributions – the site will
create an ongoing timeline of unique and personal perspectives, as well as an
ongoing discussion.
